Underfloor safes
Underfloor safes have been produced commercially from around the early 1970's by Churchill, originally sold under the Levy Safe brand. Churchill safes became the leading producer of floor safes in the UK until their parent company decided to close their factory in Newcastle under Lyme in 2008. Chubbsafes, who then controlled the the Churchill brand, soldiered on by outsourcing production to China and to Britannia safes, but eventually ceased operations in 2020. All is not lost as Hydan Safes, owned and run by ex Churchill staff now manufacture a near identical range to that which Churchill manufactured themselves back in 2008 and Britannia safes, also in Staffordhire England, offer a similar British made product.

Why choose an underfloor safe? The downsides are that the safe could take near enough a day to fit and then a 7 day wait before you can use it to allow the concrete mixture to fully dry. On top of that you will need to get down on your knees to open and use it, which may not be to your liking. In which case you should look at our insurance approved Floor standing security safes. However, it is not all doom and gloom, the real benefits are that the safe is hidden from view and with careful positioning of furniture or carpets it is unlikely to be located if you suffer a burglary. Concealed floor safes
By concealing safes underground your are improving the security immensely especially if the safe has been fitted correctly - the most comprehensive Floor Safe installation instructions are those supplied by Hydan Safes. The safe can be installed without a great deal of knowledge if the instructions are followed but most of our customers employ a local general builder. To ensure the safe is protected from damp fit a waterproof membrane and ensure that the safe door is not fitted untill the concrete mixture has fully dried out and set - usually up to a week. If the door is fitted immediately after installation then your safe will suffer condensation damage as will all the contents!

Churchill Safes now have a worthy successor - Hydan Safes - Floor Safes built in "the Potteries" just like Churchill and masterminded by the cream of Churchill's craftsmen and engineers. Churchill Safes ceased production in 2019 so Hydan Safes have come to the rescue.
