Fire Safes to protect Backup Tape Data from fire damage. Some fire safes protect paper from fire, but only a properly tested Fire data safe can protect plastic tape media.
Because data storage is stored on plastic based materials, you will require a DATA FIRE SAFE to protect your precious business data such as Back-up Tapes. All Data and Media Fire safes ensure that plastic media remains below its melting point - 52 degrees C - for up to 2 hours in a fire depending on model. Digital Media Safes will only protect CD/DVD formats, USB Flash drives, External Back Up Drives and Paper Documents.
Fire Data Safes offer superior Fire resistance as they are required to protect Plastic Back-Up Tapes such as LTO. DLT and DAT tapes from the effects of fire and heat for a period of 1-2 hours. They have superior fire insulation to standard Fire Safes as Plastic Media, such as Tape and photographic negatives, begin to deterioate when the temperatures rises above 52ºC whereas Paper ignites at 232ºC.
Many users do not realise that the majority of Fire Resistant safes offer no protection for any plastic made media and could completely close there business if this data was destroyed. Choose Fire Resistant Data Safes for Tape Media, Photographic negatives or Microfiche from proven, fully independently tested safes manufactured by Chubbsafes and Phoenix Safes.
How is a Fire data safe tested?
For the majority of recognised tests utilised by the leading laboratories, such as the EN15659 or the NT FIRE 017 certification the safe is placed in an oven above the temperature that plastic media would begin to deterioate for varying tiome periods from 60, 90 and 120 minutes. On ce this tome is reached the safe is removed frpo the oven and allowed to cool. After it reaches a temperature allowing the safe to be opened then the contents are checked and tested for any signs of heat or smoke damage.
For those who require the ultimate in fire resistance then the EN1047 DIS test is administered, which involves placing the safe in a furnace at 900°C for two hours, but instead of the safe being removed from the furnace after 2 hours the safe remains inside until the furnace itself cools - a more realistic simulation of a real fire. In addition there is 9 metre drop test to simulate the safe dropping between floors in the event of a serious fire.
What are Data-Combi fire safes?
In addition to fire data safes that are designed purely to protect and secure data storage tapes Phoenix safe offer a range of fireproof paper document safes which have an integral inner compartment to protect data tapes from fire. These are ideal for businesses that need both a safe to protect paper documents but also to protect a small quantity of vital back-up data tapes - hence Data-Combi - the best of both both worlds and a way to save by purchasing just one safe rather than two!
No one thinks it will happen to them. Most of us are too busy to think about it. But in the event of your computer undergoing a serious malfunction, think...
