What is the Fire Resistant Standard EN1047-1?

En1047-1 is the European Certification test to establish that A Fire Data Safe, to secure vital company data stored on tape, can resist almost any fire risk by testing the safe in real fire conditions for over 2 hours. Unlike other standards EN1047-1 requires the safe to be placed in an oven for 2 hours and then to be left in the oven while the oven begins to cool. Other tests remove the safe from the oven immediately after 2 hours, which would be impossible in real conditions. EN 1047-1 also tests the safe dropping down 9 metres - just as it could if it fell between floors in a real fire.
